Chinese companies and entrepreneurs are an increasingly important source of investment in the United States, and it is an objective of the Minnesota-China Partnership to attract Chinese investment to Minnesota, such as Laiwu Steel's partial ownership of United Taconite in Eveleth, Minnesota.
Although Chinese entrepreneurs are still relatively minor foreign investors today, they are expected to increase their foreign interests in the years ahead. With the recent establishment of the Chinese Council for International Investment Promotion, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) is stepping up efforts to help Chinese investors explore investment options abroad.
The Minnesota Trade Office is the initial point of entry for potential Chinese investors and currently is developing a strategy to attract foreign direct investment from China. While this strategy is being developed, potential Chinese investors may access the following information regarding Minnesota:
Minnesota also is an active participant in the MidWest US-China Association (MWCA), an organization committed to attracting Chinese investment to the Midwest region of the United States.
