Agriculture: Introduction to Global Trade

Summary: Students will research and explain the importance of international trade on American lifestyles, summarize the history of global agriculture in the last half of the 20 th century, describe the role of trade among nations and the barriers that exist, and identify the United States’ top exports and imports.

  1. Explain the importance of international trade on American lifestyles.
  2. Describe the role of trade among nations and identify barriers that exist.
  3. Identify the United States’ top exports and imports.
  4. Understand how a country's infrastructure affects food and fiber distribution.
  5. Be aware of the involvement and influence of government agencies on marketing of food and fiber commodities.
  6. Understand the effects of globalization on a society and its ability to produce food.
  7. Analyze the types of farming systems used throughout the world and determine countries that use each system.

Differentiate among and compare the agricultural practices of various countries.
